“I just naturally want to do things that make sense. In my personal life too, I don't care what other rich people are doing. I don’t want a 405 foot boat just because someone else has a 400 foot boat,” he says.

No wonder, he says that earning more than 12 per cent in stock is pure dumb luck.
“During the 20th Century, the Dow advanced from 66 to 11,497. This gain, though it appears huge, shrinks to 5.3 per cent when compounded annually .... For investors to merely match that 5.3 per cent market-value gain, the Dow – recently below 13,000 – would need to close at about 2,000,000 on December 31, 2099!”
Thus, “if your adviser talks to you about double-digit returns from equities, explain this math to him,” he says.One thing that Warren Buffett doesn’t do is try to time the stock market, although he does have a very strong view on the price levels appropriate to individual shares.
A majority of investors, however, do just the opposite, something that financial planners are always warning them to avoid.Buffett also likes to keep his investment portfolio limited and simple, and believes in adopting simple investing strategies.
“I want to be able to explain my mistakes. This means I do only the things I completely understand,” he says.
According to his philosophy, keeping one’s attention limited to selected stocks and investment avenues, and not diversifying too much also helps.
“Over time, you will find only a few companies that meet these standards -- so when you see one that qualifies, you should buy a meaningful amount of stock. You must also resist temptation to stray from your guidelines: If you aren’t willing to own a stock for ten years, don’t even think about owning it for ten minutes,” he says.Buffett does not believe in reinvesting earnings in the same business. Because no one can guarantee you the same return again.

The Story Of Lehman Brothers
The history of Lehman Brothers parallels the growth of the United States and its energetic drive toward prosperity and international prominence. What would evolve into a global financial entity began as a general store in the American South.
Henry Lehman, an immigrant from Germany, opened his small shop in the city of Montgomery, Alabama in 1844. Six years later, he was joined by brothers Emanuel and Mayer, and they named the business Lehman Brothers. The firm, thus, was founded in 1850.
Cotton was the cash crop of the time, and the Lehmans accepted it from the local farmers as currency to settle accounts. The brothers traded the cotton for cash or merchandise, becoming brokers for buyers and sellers of the crop.
In 1858, they opened an office in New York, which was the commodity trading center of the country.
The Civil War disrupted the Lehmans' business. When hostilities ended, the brothers moved north and concentrated their operations in New York, where they helped establish the Cotton Exchange.
The post-war period witnessed the rapid growth of railroads, sparking the transformation of the nation from an agrarian to an industrial economy. At the time, Lehman Brothers' future merger partner, Kuhn, Loeb, was underwriting much of the financing for railroad construction.
Railroad bonds represented a significant advance in the development of capital markets. Their affordable price attracted a great number of individual investors and Lehman Brothers, recognizing a trend, expanded its commodities business to include the sale and trading of securities. The firm also moved into the area of financial advisory, which provided the foundation for underwriting expertise.

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is Government of India's flagship programme for achievement of Universalization of Elementary Education (UEE) in a time bound manner, as mandated by 86th amendment to the Constitution of India making fee and compulsory Education to the Children of 6-14 years age group, a Fundamental Right.
SSA is being implemented in partnership with State Governments to cover the entire country and address the needs of 192 million children in 1.1 million habitations.
The programme seeks to open new schools in those habitations which do not have schooling facilities and strengthen existing school infrastructure through provision of additional class rooms, toilets, drinking water, maintenance grant and school improvement grants.
Existing schools with inadequate teacher strength are provided with additional teachers, while the capacity of existing teachers is being strengthened by extensive training, grants for developing teaching-learning materials and strengthening of the academic support structure at a cluster, block and district level.
SSA seeks to provide quality elementary education including life skills. SSA has a special focus on girl's education and children with special needs. SSA also seeks to provide computer education to bridge the digital divide.
AIG looks at liquidating assets
In a bid to garner $50 billion in liquidity, American International Group Inc., is making last desperate moves to avoid being downgraded by rating agencies when the markets open today. The insurer is already working on a re-structure plan that is expected to be disclosed later today. It is pursuing a three-part plan to raise $40 billion in liquidity. Among other things, it may pursue immediate sale of airplane leasing business. According to media reports, AIG is also in talks with Warren Buffett. Executives of insurer American International Group Inc met top New York state officials including Governor David Paterson and insurance and banking regulators over the weekend seeking permission to liquidate assets to raise cash, a media report said on Monday. These assets include Manhattan real estate, the report said, citing unidentified sources. AIG on Sunday approached the Federal Reserve seeking $40 billion in short-term financing, to avoid rating downgrades and bolster the capital of its holding company, according to the New York Times. The company could hold an investor call on Monday, the Wall Street Journal said on Friday.

Lehman-invested Indian firms lose over Rs 2,000 cr
Lehman Brothers' move to file for bankruptcy today wiped off more than Rs 2,000 crore from the market valuation of those Indian companies in which the US financial major has made equity investments. Lehman itself recorded a loss of more than Rs 50 crore today on its investments in India, which is nearly 10 per cent of its current holding worth an estimated over Rs 500 crore. The loss would have been much higher if Lehman had not started offloading its equity holding in Indian companies late last month. In a major selling spree that started on August 21, Lehman has sold shares worth close to Rs 400 crore in nearly 10 companies, including NIIT Ltd, Cranes Software, Amtek Auto, Amtek India, Fedders Llyod, Northgate, Mastek, Triveni Engg and Prajay Engg. Prior to this sell-off, Lehman's Indian equity portfolio is estimated to have been worth more than Rs 1,000 crore, which has now nearly halved to about Rs 500 crore. Most of the shares offloaded by Lehman in India, including those in NIIT, Cranes, Amtek Auto, Amtek India and Northgate, has been purchased by Deutsche Bank, according to the bulk and block deal data available with the bourses. Besides the 10 companies where Lehman has offloaded its shares, Lehman had equity holding in about two dozen firms at the end of June quarter. These firms include Spice Communications, Spice Mobile, Anant Raj Industries, Edelweiss Cap, IVRCL Infra, Tulip Telecom, Consolidated Construction, PSL, Orbit Corp, Development Credit Bank, Champagne Indage, Godawari Power, KPIT Cummins, West Coast Paper, IOL Netcom, Dhampur Sugar, Prithvi Info, Golden Tobacco, Emkay Global, Vijay Shanti Builders and Pioneer Embroidery.
The Training And Skills You Need To Become An FBI Agent
The year 1908 saw establishment of a small force of special agents within the Department of Justice. This force was mainly comprised of former secret service agents and department peon investigators. In addition to the outright physical rigors, the new comer will need to pass a defensive tactics test that will include boxing, grappling, handcuffing, control holds, searching, weapon retention and disarming techniques. This is why most private investigators are former police officers but many are not. Almost every state will do a background investigation to determine if you have a criminal record or outstanding warrant, some states will even look into your credit history and ask for personal and professional references. Today a licensed private investigator can have access to a variety if personal information such as social security numbers, criminal records checks, locating databases. If a person of suspect character had access to this type of information they could irresponsibly release it to a stalker or potential murderer, or at the very least an identity thief. So that's why it's important for private investigators to be regulated at the sate level. Each state is different and you can either use goggle to find online state by state licensing requirements for private investigators or contact your sates dept of licensing. Second is education. If your state requires a degree in criminal justice you'll need to find a good school or online college. Even if your state does not require a degree your potential employer may. So you'll want to get some kinds of degree or certificate. There are many online schools that offer a Private Investigator certificate. This may not help with your state licensing board but a potential employer will be impressed that you are taking your new career choice seriously by getting some education under your belt. Third is Integrity Investigations, sometimes also called mystery shopping. These companies will hire inexperienced private investigator trainees to visit local businesses in their area to conduct undercover visits and see if the employees are following the stores corporate policies. Sometimes you'll visit a major dept store and take covert video. Other times you'll dine for free at a restaurant and report back on the quality of food and service. You don't need to defend yourself, because she's on there too! Everyone is so afraid that somebody is going to see their profile online – but if somebody recognizes you from match.com and approaches you in public, it means that they are attracted to you and want to talk to you! Otherwise, they wouldn't say anything, they would just run and hide. I've seen people walking around whose profiles on match.com I've seen when I've been doing profile work for clients. I've seen their pictures and their profiles, and I'll look at them and I'll hide – because I don't want to talk to them! I don't feel like walking over to them and saying, "hey, the other day I was looking at your profile on match.com, and I didn't know that you liked to run naked through the rain." The great thing about posting your profile on online dating sites is that it is now socially accepted. Put your picture online – who cares? It doesn't matter. You want people to know that you're single. It's so funny that people complain all of the time about being single, but then they try to hide the fact that they are single. They go to a party and someone asks, "so, you're single?" And they respond, "yeah, I'm single" in a depressed voice, rather than saying, "yeah, I'm single.
